Romantic Getaway in Charleston

Updated: Aug 18, 2020

Some of the best vacations are staycations in your own city. Hubby and I have found that it's so important to get time away from the kids to reconnect and focus on eachother. A midweek staycation in downtown Charleston was a perfect little retreat to rest and relax.

The Wentworth Mansion was an ideal choice for a romantic and serene getaway. Built in 1886, the Wentworth Mansion has been named #2 of the best small luxury hotels of the world (2019 US News and World Report). It's rooftop cupola is renowned for spectacular 360 degree views of the city.

The hotel offers happy hour every day from 5pm-6pm. Noshing on little nibbles and wine in the downstairs parlor really helped us easy into this romantic setting.

We decided to doll up a bit on our first night for dinner at Circa 1886, the on-site restaurant that boasts an updated and reimagined take on classic lowcountry fare. We savored pate and shrimp and grits with service that rivals any 5-star restaurant.

After dinner we enjoyed the most beautiful sunset on the cupola and returned to chocolate truffles hanging on the door of our room. I really appreciated their efforts during our stay as they implemented new sanitation procedures and touchless service where possible.

There are only 21 rooms at this boutique hotel, and we were so delighted to stay on the top floor. The views from our room were incredible, and the bed was super comfortable. Like-- the kind of bed that you want to sleep in and read all day! And that's exactly what we did. The charm of this hotel swooned us right into taking a pause and enjoying the quiet moments in life.

Here's a quick tour of the hotel:

If you're looking for a romantic getaway to the Holy City, The Wentwoth Mansion is an ideal spot for a quiet and sophisticated retreat. The attention to detail and service are top notch, and being surrounded by such beautiful Charleston architecture is the icing on the cake.
