"Quirk-y" weekend in Richmond

Updated: Apr 15, 2020

Named one of the south's best hotels on the Southern Living 2018 list, the Quirk Hotel delights you with a mix of classic and modern elements to create an uber chic experience. The signature "Quirk Pink" color is everywhere, and the original artwork on display throughout the hotel creates an experience that rivals any well known gallery. The Quirk made a perfect home away from home while I was in town to speak at the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA) Day of Design.

Every night my design besties and I enjoyed craft made cocktails at the Quirk Hotel's Maple & Pine Bar and the Q Rooftop Bar. The view of the Richmond skyline is just dreamy at sunset! The Quirk Hotel boasts a rather chic crowd, and JuJu felt right at home with my sparkly turbans and Loy Harn baubles. Cocktail hour just feels a bit more special with a fabulous cocktail ring, don't you think??

It was a fast weekend, but I was able to squeeze in a bit of shopping during my visit. A friend recommended that I stop into Bygones, which is a well known vintage store in town with loads of goodies. It did not disappoint! I also noshed at several hot spots around the city. Friends know my love of Korean food after living in Seoul for 3 years, and J.Kogi hands down has the best kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) that I've had since moving back! AND-- the pimento cheese at Comfort?? Drool worthy. Comfort just happened to be celebrating their 17th anniversary during my visit, and their homemade birthday cake made my weekend.

I couldn't leave Richmond without making a pit stop at Tweed. Talk about a gift store mecca! The store was bustling with shoppers, and has all of the latest products from some of my favorite brands like SCOUT Bags, catstudio, KEVA Style, Jayes Studio, and Coton Colors.

Tweed has a brilliant partnership with SCOUT Bags as the exclusive retailer for their signature Richmond bag, and I had the pleasure of toting one around all weekend during my visit. There are sooo many styles and sizes, and the pattern is fun and colorful.

Speaking of cuff bracelets-- I recently discovered this female owned brand, KEVA Style, and their leather accessories are just so lovely. Started by two moms, all of their beautiful products are handmade in Richmond. Ya'll know how I love a good #girlboss success story-- so go support these Richmond based gals!

Richmond's rich history and artsy vibe left an imprint on me that I'm sure will pull me back soon to this vibrant city. Until next time, Richmond! JuJu
