Easter in the Lowcountry

Updated: May 31, 2022

I love a pretty Easter tablescape as it always feels like the start of spring. It signifies new beginnings, and everything is in full bloom here in Charleston. Usually I like to make my favorite coconut cake for Easter (get the yummy recipe HERE), but this year I decided to let the professionals take the lead. Southern Baked Pie Co makes the most delicious French Coconut Custard Mini-Pies, and I ordered enough for everyone to have their own. We also ordered whole Blueberry, Caramel Pecan, and Chocolate Chess pies to enjoy. All of their products ship with dry ice and arrive frozen. They are so easy to pop in the freezer and pull out when you're ready to serve.

This year I decided to start with a basic white tablecloth and add layers of color and pattern to create a pretty table. I love a good mix of vintage and new pieces, and I also love to mix paper products with more formal tableware. There are no rules these days with tablescapes-- just have fun! I pulled out dinner and salad plates that belonged to my grandmother, and I love honoring the memory of family members in my table settings. These two pieces were the jumping off point for the look of my Easter table.

I've had a long love affair with all of the beautiful paper products from Hester & Cook, and I think mixing paper with some of my vintage china brings a bit of whimsy and a more casual look to my tablescape. I love that I can take a basic white tablecloth and add Hester & Cook's paper runner to create a pretty backdrop to my tableware. And how cute are these cabbage placemats??

I've called on my friends at Charleston Cotton many times for beautiful linens, and these custom dinner napkins are the perfect accent to my tablescape. There's definitely a time and place for paper napkins, but I really do love a pretty monogrammed linen dinner napkin. There's just something about it that tells your guests that they are in for a special treat. Now given my special guests are my sticky-fingered kids!! But-- I still love to elevate our holidays at home.

And can you believe these stemless wine glasses are acrylic?? Carved Solutions makes the most beautiful personalized glassware and cutting boards, and these are a perfect kid-friendly addition to your table. Hubby and I will enjoy wine and the kids get sparkling cider.
