Anyone that knows me knows that I'm a huge proponent of supporting other women, and I love to cook up (pun intended! ha!) fun events and experiences with my friends here Charleston. When I met Amanda Wilbanks, the super talented baker and driving force behind Southern Baked Pie Company, I knew we were going to be fast friends. I fell in love with her and her pies at The Southern C Summit earlier this year, and I knew we just had to do something fun together. The Southern C Summit encourages everyone to #connectcollaboratecreate, and that's exactly what Amanda and I decided to do! The timing was perfect to coincide with the Charleston Wine & Food Festival as Amanda & Southern Bake Pie Co. were coming to town as one of the featured food companies during the festival.
Tickets to CWFF are hard to come by these days, and they sell out quickly. We decided to invite a bunch of friends to a weekday of baking and eating pie at my home, and it was the perfect start to her busy week at CWFF.Â
For any event that I pull together I'm always focused on making my guests feel special, and my friends over at Gunner's Daughter custom made the most colorful Charleston themed aprons for everyone to wear. All of the colors were right at home in my kitchen, and the guests were so excited to take them home.
Each guest took a seat and found a plethora of goodies waiting to be opened. They each received a signed copy of Amanda's book, Southern Baked, a box of her famous pie crust mix, fun Nip & Tuck artwork from Willa Heart, and treats from Jackson Morgan Southern Cream.
Everyone including me was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to make a flavorful crust from Amanda's boxed pie crust mix. Just add butter and water, and voila! Easy peasy! Even unexperienced cooks can make this and not worry about a #recipefail.
To up the flavor factor on a classic blueberry crostata, we topped them off with flavored liqueurs from Jackson Morgan Southern Cream. The Brown Sugar & Cinnamon was the perfect splash on top of our warm crostatas when they came out of the oven. Guests also enjoyed boozy coffee drinks with other yummy flavors such as Salted Caramel and Banana Pudding.
The class setup was easy and many laughs were had while learning something new. Pie and boozy coffee on a weekday?? I say "yes" to that any day of the week! In the mood for some pie without the prep? Southern Baked Pie Co. ships all over the U.S. right to your door. Might I recommend the Lemon Chess-- it is EPIC!!
